Comedian Dennis Kairu Wanjiku, widely known by his stage name Kairu wa Ndeiya, has abruptly resigned from his position as a radio presenter at Royal Media Services (RMS)-owned Inooro FM, a mere two days after starting. The sudden departure has sparked concerns and confusion among his fans.

In a resignation letter dated March 18th and addressed to RMS Human Resource Manager, Rose Wanjohi, Kairu cited overwhelming pressure and threats from veteran personalities at rival radio stations as the reason for his quick exit.

“I am writing to formally resign from my position as a radio presenter at Royal Media Services,” the letter read in part. “I am grateful for the opportunity and sincerely appreciate the support, guidance, and collaboration from my colleagues and management. However, the pressure and threats from media personalities at rival stations were too much.”

Kairu acknowledged the difficulty of his decision but maintained he felt it was the right one. He offered to assist in the transition period and expressed his hope to remain in contact, wishing the company continued success.

Speaking after his resignation, Kairu revealed that the individuals pressuring him were established veterans within the radio industry. He expressed bewilderment at being targeted, especially given his relative inexperience.

“You took me for a rival, but I wasn’t,” he stated. “I am just a 20-year-old guy who is trying to make ends meet. You are professionals in your industry with 15 years plus experience. I am just one year old in comedy, let alone radio. Anyway, I am too young for pressure. I hope those who orchestrated this are now happy.”

While Kairu refrained from naming the specific individuals involved, his comments suggest a potentially hostile environment within the competitive Kenyan radio landscape. The quick resignation highlights the pressures faced by newcomers entering the industry and raises questions about the tactics employed by established figures.

RMS is yet to release an official statement regarding Kairu’s resignation and the allegations of threats from rival stations. The incident has left fans wondering about Kairu wa Ndeiya’s next move and the future of his burgeoning comedy career.
