A viral video from a Ugandan car show has ignited a heated debate between Kenyan and Ugandan car enthusiasts, sparking passionate arguments online over which nation boasts the superior automotive culture. The video, showcasing a range of impressive vehicles from a car show held in Uganda on March 9th, quickly gained traction on social media, fueling intense discussions and national pride.
The Ugandan car show featured a diverse collection of vehicles, including luxury SUVs like Mercedes G-Wagons and Range Rovers, stylish convertible Audis, powerful Escalades, high-performance superbikes, and even head-turning sports cars like Nissan GTRs and Ford Mustangs. Held at a picturesque lakeside location, the event attracted hundreds of attendees eager to showcase their prized possessions and admire the best Uganda has to offer.
GTI Club Uganda, a prominent car enthusiast group, celebrated the event on social media, writing: “Car show organised in just two days. The car show that pops up in the shortest time possible never disappoints. What an amazing introduction to the Ugandan car scene. Last Sunday will be a day to remember! When Ugandaโs car scene takes on the mannequin challenge, itโs next-level vibes.”
However, the celebration quickly morphed into a cross-border rivalry as Kenyan car enthusiasts weighed in, many arguing that while Uganda’s car culture is undoubtedly growing, it still falls short of Kenyaโs more established and often more extravagant high-end vehicle scene.
Kenyan enthusiasts pointed to the regular presence of rare and highly sought-after luxury vehicles at Kenyan car shows, including Porsche 911s, Lamborghini Urus models, Aston Martins, Maybachs, and Rolls Royce vehicles. These events, they argued, draw large crowds of dedicated car enthusiasts, further solidifying Kenya’s position as a regional leader in the automotive landscape.
George Nicholas, a well-known figure in the Kenyan car community and renowned for his collection of performance cars, strongly defended Kenyaโs automotive supremacy. “For the last few years, the Kenyan car scene has been on overdrive. Just look at the variety of performance cars entering the country,” Nicholas asserted. He emphasized the significant impact the influx of high-end vehicles has had on shaping and advancing Kenya’s car culture.
The online debate continues to rage, fueled by national pride and a deep passion for automobiles. While Uganda is undoubtedly making strides in its automotive scene, the argument over which country truly reigns supreme in the East African car world remains far from settled. One thing is certain: the passion for cars in both Kenya and Uganda is undeniable, and the friendly rivalry is only serving to fuel further growth and innovation in the region’s automotive landscape.
