Kenyan socialite Manzi Wa Mombasa has revealed she named her newborn son after the late TikTok sensation Brian Chira, who tragically passed away on March 16, 2024. In a candid interview with SPM Buzz, Manzi Wa Mombasa explained her heartfelt decision to honor Chira, who was laid to rest on March 27th in Kiambu County.

“Chira’s death shocked us. He did not have a child anywhere,” she shared. “It is said that when you die without a child, your name fades away. That is why I decided to give birth and name him Chira.”

Adding a unique dimension to the story, Manzi Wa Mombasa disclosed that she conceived her son through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) because she exclusively dates women. “I went through IVF because I date women. I have not betrayed the ‘gang,’” she stated.

To fund the expensive IVF procedure, Manzi Wa Mombasa revealed she had to make a significant financial sacrifice, selling a piece of land for KSh 600,000 and supplementing the remaining costs. “I wanted a baby boy so I could name him Chira. That was my main motivation for going through the process,” she said.

The socialite further expressed her gratitude to Chira’s grandmother, who has warmly embraced her decision and showered the newborn with love. “She came and blessed the baby and was happy to see him. She even cooked for me and did shopping for me. She loves this child a lot.”

Despite being a member of the LGBTQ community, Manzi Wa Mombasa stated her intention to raise her children as heterosexual. “I will never support my child to be gay. Mtu akiingia kutoka ni ngumu (once you’re in, it’s hard to get out). I know I can never leave, but I will try my best to raise my kids straight so they can have families and give me grandchildren.”

Opening up about her past, Manzi Wa Mombasa shared the traumatic experiences that led her to dating women. “I had a bad experience—that’s why I hate men. I can never get married. I was gang-raped at 16 and ended up pregnant. I ran away with my firstborn daughter. With my second child, the guy dumped me. After that, I decided to stay away from men. I still have trauma from men.”

Brian Chira’s passing came as a shock to many. At the time of his death, the TikTok star’s career was on the rise, although he had been open about his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Post-mortem reports revealed that Chira died due to multiple organ injuries and blunt force trauma sustained in a road accident, as confirmed by Baba Talisha in a TikTok video following his death.

Manzi Wa Mombasa’s decision to name her son after the late Chira has sparked conversation online, with many praising her for honoring the memory of the young entertainer. Her journey to motherhood, through IVF and in the face of past trauma, paints a compelling picture of resilience and determination.
