Police in Sotik, Bomet County, have arrested one individual for damaging Kenya Power transformers in the area.
Hassan Kipkurui Rotich was apprehended following a tip-off from the locals who alerted the authorities about a continuing act of vandalism that was being perpetrated in the region.
“Police officers stationed at the Kapletundo Police Station responded very fast and caught Rotich red-handed,” the DCI said in a statement on X.
After thorough interrogation, he disclosed the whereabouts of two additional transformers that he and his co-defendant, who remains at large, Collins Kibet, had previously vandalized and thereby rendered inoperative in the villages of Chepkosa and Cheptigit.
“Rotich and the evidence were subsequently transported to Kapletundo Police Station, where the suspect is presently in custody, awaiting arraignment. Kibet remains at large. “
“The public is being urged to stop vandalizing key installations, as such acts of sabotage will be dealt with the full force of the law,” the investigative authority cautioned.
