In an interview with Afrimax English, Deborah recounted how her life took a tragic turn. With her mother frequently hospitalized due to a long-standing battle with hepatitis, Deborah often remained at home with her father, believing her and her twelve siblings were safe in his care. However, during these times, her father began sexually assaulting her, starting when she was just 14 years old.

“He took advantage of the situation,” Deborah revealed, her voice filled with pain. “He made it a habit… I was so scared.”

The abuse continued until Deborah fell ill. When she sought medical attention, doctors questioned her about her sexual activity. Initially hesitant, she eventually revealed the horrifying truth – that her father had been abusing her.

Upon learning of the abuse, the doctors immediately reported the case to the police. Deborah’s father was promptly arrested, and Deborah was placed on HIV preventative medication as she awaited the birth of her child.

The story takes an even more devastating turn. Deborah gave birth, and shockingly, so did her mother, making them both nursing mothers who share the same man as the father of their children – a man who is Deborah’s father and her mother’s husband.

This unimaginable situation paints a stark picture of a family torn apart by abuse, poverty, and desperate circumstances. They are now grappling with the emotional and social repercussions of this horrific ordeal, compounded by the already existing challenges of their impoverished environment.
