Kenyan socialite Manzi Wa Mombasa has made headlines by naming her newborn son after the late TikTok sensation Brian Chira, who tragically passed away on March 16, 2024. Chira, who was laid to rest on March 27th in Kiambu County, resonated with many online but sadly left behind no children.

In an interview with SPM Buzz, Manzi Wa Mombasa explained her deeply personal decision to honor Chira’s memory: “Chira’s death shocked us. He did not have a child anywhere. It is said that when you die without a child, your name fades away. That is why I decided to give birth and name him Chira.”

She revealed that her son was conceived through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), a choice stemming from her exclusive relationships with women. Funding the procedure required a significant financial commitment, prompting her to sell a piece of land for KSh 600,000 and supplement the remaining costs. “I wanted a baby boy so I could name him Chira. That was my main motivation for going through the process,” she stated.

The socialite also shared that Chira’s grandmother has embraced her decision, offering her blessing and support to the newborn. “She came and blessed the baby and was happy to see him. She even cooked for me and did shopping for me. She loves this child a lot,” Manzi Wa Mombasa said, expressing her gratitude.

Despite identifying as part of the LGBTQ community, Manzi Wa Mombasa has stated her intention to raise her children in a way that encourages heterosexual relationships. “I will never support my child to be gay. Mtu akiingia kutoka ni ngumu (once you’re in, it’s hard to get out). I know I can never leave, but I will try my best to raise my kids straight so they can have families and give me grandchildren.”

Manzi Wa Mombasa also opened up about her past, revealing that traumatic experiences with men led her to pursue relationships with women. “I had a bad experience—that’s why I hate men. I can never get married. I was gang-raped at 16 and ended up pregnant. I ran away with my firstborn daughter. With my second child, the guy dumped me. After that, I decided to stay away from men. I still have trauma from men.”

Brian Chira’s untimely death cut short a promising career, though he had publicly battled with issues of depression and alcoholism. Manzi Wa Mombasa’s decision to name her son after him serves as a unique tribute, ensuring his name lives on and offering a new chapter in the lives of those who knew and admired him.
