After an undated video surfaced online showing Patrick Matasi, the goalie for the Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz, negotiating “a deal” with anonymous people, seemingly to fix a football game, Kenyan football fans took to social media to vent their rage.
It’s still unclear when and when the amateur footage was shot, as well as who the fixtures are. The Kenyan goalie’s face is plainly visible in the footage, which was obviously shot in a car. The match-fixers can be heard instructing Matasi on how to carry out the “deal” on the video clip.
Matasi nods in agreement as the man says, “I reiterate again before the boss, this is the first contract, I implore you.” “You know how we have done this, I have never let you down, you have never let me down,” the man continues, implying that they had previously conducted business of this nature.
“I have no failures in my business with you, right?” The goalie responds, “True!” to the man’s question. “I will convey anything that is supplied to me directly to you. He tells Matasi, who still accepts his offer, “As soon as I forward it to you, I will call you and my boss will confirm you have got it, then the transaction is on.”
As the chat goes on, the man expresses his desire for Matasi to perform in the alleged arranged match. He ends by saying, “That first half, dude, what we want must come, then my deal should not go to anyone.” Matasi has recently drawn criticism for giving up some “cheap goals” in both the national team and Kenya Police FC. Most recently, he gave up two dubious goals against Cameroon in a 4-1 loss during the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, which hurt Kenya’s chances of winning the tournament.
